Past/Present: Former Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs released by Packers

FRISCO, Texas – Former Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs was released by the Packers on Tuesday after playing two games in Green Bay.

Diggs, who was waived by the Cowboys on Dec. 30 for a culmination of multiple factors over time, started in the Packers' season finale against the Vikings and played one snap in their Wild Card matchup against the Bears.

The Packers were liable for the remainder of Diggs' contract for the 2025 season after claiming him off waivers. Now by releasing him, he has no guaranteed money remaining on the five-year, $97 million extension he signed with Dallas in 2023, and Green Bay freed up the roughly $15 million Diggs would've counted for against the cap in 2026.

A return to the Packers is still possible for Diggs, but the team releasing him likely means they'll look to get a new deal done with him at a different price. Green Bay is home to Diggs' close friend and former Cowboys teammate Micah Parsons, who was traded to the Packers before Week 1 of the 2025 season.

As Diggs heads into seventh year of his NFL career in 2026, he'll look to stay healthy in doing so. Diggs' hasn't played a full 17 game season since 2022, and just 22 games since signing the extension in 2023.

Over the last three years, Diggs has dealt with various injuries. Beginning in 2023, Diggs tragically tore his ACL in practice after the first two weeks of the regular season. After starting 2024 training camp on the PUP list, Diggs played the first 10 games of the year, but then dealt with a groin injury and another knee injury that required surgery, causing him to miss the final four games of the season.

Now heading into 2026, Diggs has all the options out on the table in front of him and can look to try and get back to his Pro Bowl and All-Pro level play from earlier in his career.
