How far up could the Cowboys move in the first round if they packaged the 12th overall pick and their third-round pick in a trade? Who would have to be available for you to trade both picks to move up? – Ramon Trujillo/Santa Barbara , CA
Patrik: The third-round pick just gave up a starting caliber defensive tackle to acquire because they didn't have a second- or third-round pick at all? My point here is while it's not impossible to consider, I personally think it's highly unlikely they send away the one Day 2 pick they currently have, and having given up an impact player to get it, no less. If there's someone falling that they want to go up and get, my thought is they'll do what they've done recently: mortgage a future pick, not one in 2026. As for who I'd be willing to trade up for, that's a loaded question, but the answer is probably Sonny Styles if he's nearing the 10th-overall pick. I have no interest in giving up what's required to get near or into the top-5.
Tommy: I think you could see Dallas get another mid-to-late first round pick with that package if we're talking straight draft compensation. I've outlined it on the Draft Show a few times, if the Cowboys were to make a trade to move up, I think packaging the 12th and 20th picks for Cleveland's sixth overall pick and their 39th overall pick would be a great haul that can get you one of the upper-echelon defenders that we've seen mocked in the top 10 throughout the entire draft cycle. Obviously, trades are a two way street and Cleveland would need to agree as well. You would hope that they'd like the idea of having three first round picks in this draft and be willing to make the deal, but it is a premium pick after all, so who knows. If you can either get a top-tier player in this class via trade or move capital around to acquire some more top-100 picks, I think it's in the Cowboys' best interest.
